I can meet with you in person, which is the most effective way to have a tutoring session. As an option, you can send me your work electronically.
- I charge $40.00/hour if I meet with you in person.
- For work sent electronically, I charge either $40.00/hour OR $25.00/page. I will charge the lesser amount of the two.
- For example, if you send me three pages to edit, it would cost $75.00. If I end up spending two hours on those three pages, it would cost $80.00 Thus, I will charge you the lower cost, which is $75.00.
- Here is another illustration: if you send me six pages, that would be $240.00 if I charge by page. However, if I only spend two hours on those pages, it would cost you $50.00. I will charge the lesser amount. On the other hand, if I spend five hours on those six pages, the total would be $200.00. In this case, it would be less expensive for you to pay per hour. I cannot know ahead of time which is less expensive; how much editing work your writing needs is what will determine the final cost.
- I will charge $20/page for follow-up work on electronically-sent pages. A FOLLOW UP IS WHEN I SEND YOU BACK YOUR CORRECTED WORK, AND, AFTER YOU HAVE MADE THE CHANGES, YOU SEND IT BACK FOR ME TO LOOK OVER ONE MORE TIME. I MUST CHARGE FOR THIS BECAUSE IT TAKES TIME FOR ME TO DO THIS.
- If you have questions about my charges, contact me and I will go over them with you. It is a bit confusing, but I have set up my rates this way to benefit both you and me. We cannot know how much a tutoring job will cost until it is finished, for only after it is completed will I know which rate is less expensive for you: by page or by hour.
If we meet in person, you must bring a hard copy (a printed-out paper copy) of the material you would like to discuss. I will NOT read your essay on your laptop, tablet screen (iPad, etc.), or smartphone. We will agree before the session on how long you would like the session to run. A tutoring session must last at least one hour.
If you choose to send me your work electronically, I will make notes directly on the pages with my editing app (iAnnotate). In addition to writing comments on your paper, I use editing symbols. I will send you an attachment explaining the symbols I use.
